It was great!!
You might ask me what I am talking about with that statement, and the answer would be your response to the Great Day of Service. On Sunday, September 27, we embarked on our fifth-annual GDS! We had so many people doing projects to help the world feel the love of Jesus. From packing meals and dental kits, to landscaping and construction, to concrete work and prayer walks, to encouraging missionaries to thanking first responders! There were more projects that were done in neighborhoods of those who weren’t able to be with us on Sunday morning.
I love the Great Day of Service for several reasons:
- People see Jesus in us
- We serve together as Jesus calls us to
- We put others ahead of ourselves
- It’s a reminder that the church is always supposed to leave the building
We did have to move from the Spring to the Fall, because of our nemesis COVID-19, but even a global pandemic could not make us cancel showing the love of Christ to our community. I want to personally thank you for taking part in or praying for the GDS. If you were unable to participate on Sunday, September 27, I encourage you to do something in your neighborhood for others that will show the love of Christ.
Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 25:
Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ Mathew 25:37-40
Thanks for partnering with Riverlawn as we truly try to Engage the World and Live Generously. A special thanks to Greg Schuessler and Kelsey DeBusk, who did the heavy lifting on putting the GDS together.
May every day great by living it for Jesus!
