Riverlawn Connection – August 2020

Have you ever read, Oh the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss? There are a lot of great quotes in that book including this one, “You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that life’s a great balancing act.” I feel like we are in a great balancing act as a church body in the middle of this COVID-19 mess. It seems like every week we need to be careful of where we step. Physical or Digital? Kids ministry or no? Community hour live teaching or not? Masks or no masks? Elephant or Donkey? Peanut M&M’s or regular M&M’s?

Well, we are in a great balancing act with life and church life right now. (Although we know the answer to one of the questions for sure—Peanut M&M’s!) During the uncertainty of what to do, how to respond and what’s next, I am so thankful that we have a God who is in control! I love Proverbs 16:9, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.”

I want you to know that as part of your leadership team here at RCC, we are leaning into what is best for all of you! We are praying, relying on the Holy Spirit, and having discussions on how we can adapt to all of these “strange birds”. I keep telling our leadership that no matter what we decide on these “birds” we appear to be in the middle of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Some think our decisions are too much, some think they are not enough and some think they are just right! And I will tell you that some of those are right, some of the time, on some of the things!!

I write to encourage you to stay faithful in the middle of everything that is going on. I write you to stay focused on Christ in the middle of everything. I write you to let the Lord guide your steps in the middle of everything. May we all look back on March 2020-????? and say that we stayed faithful to our God and to His Church!

A Strange Bird Himself,

Jeff
