Making disciples who make disciples. This is one of the cornerstones upon which Riverlawn is built! It’s hard to go very far into Riverlawn and not find someone who is passionate about making disciples. Matthew 4:19 says, “‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.'” Sound familiar?
Do you want to be a “fisher of men” but don’t really know how to begin? Does the idea of discipleship excite you but also terrify you a little, filling you with uncertainty on how to begin? Well there is an amazing opportunity coming your way to help you obey Jesus’ command to be a “fisher of men!”
The Apprenticeship Program has been put together for someone just like you! It is “a focused program of growth and development for those who want to pursue the call to make disciples.” This opportunity has been created to help believers grow stronger in their faith, theology, and ministry focus!
There are several different facets to The Apprenticeship Program.
- First, an apprentice will choose a ministry focus (Kids, Youth, Worship, Discipleship, etc) that they will work alongside the ministry’s pastor on a weekly basis. They will spend time learning the ins and outs of that ministry, and all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into it on a weekly basis.
- Second, there will be a theology focus that will include weekly small group time with either an apprentice small group or a specific mentor. Different theological subjects (Justification, Sanctification, Discipleship, etc.) will be taught through videos created by Riverlawn, and they will be paired with weekly homework questions to go along with the videos.
- Third, there will be either weekly or bi-weekly check-in sessions with the pastor of the ministry focus chosen by the apprentice. This will be a time for both the pastor and apprentice to share any challenges, concerns, victories, encouragement, or growth opportunities as needed.
Any potential apprentice should know that there is definitely a time commitment involved when considering this program. The first session will begin in July, and it will take about 8-10 hours a week for 6 months to complete this program.
I know that this can sound daunting, especially for full-time students or working adults! But it is for a great cause and has eternal value! We make time for the things that are important to us, right?
Well, there you have it! Doesn’t this program sound amazing?! Such a great opportunity for believers who desire to grow in their faith and disciple-making abilities! Prayerfully consider this opportunity and how God would use you to make disciples who make disciples.
